Knerr’s Repertory is especially useful in cases where the pathology dominates and useful generals or reliable mental and emotional symptoms are scarce.

Calvin Knerr compiled it as the index to Hering’s Guiding Symptoms of our Materia Medica, and it was published in 1896. It is a concordance repertory, one of the puritan group: symptoms are given in their original form without much change, and the repertory is designed to help you find a symptom in the Materia Medica. Its structure was hard to learn beside Kent’s, and for a long time it saw little use. The RadarOpus version uses the Sivaraman edition published by B. Jain, which reduces the chapters to 37 to follow Kent more closely, and RadarOpus search does the rest.

When to use it

Knerr combines pathogenetic and clinical data, and contains rubrics that are hard to find elsewhere in the literature. It lets you search a clinical diagnosis together with a broad mental symptom, as in MIND - HOPELESS - colic, in, where Ant-t. appears. There are many clinical rubrics on stage of life, gender and pathology too.

Tips in RadarOpus

  • Search for any pathology, condition or diagnosis to see at a glance which rubrics are available.
  • Search for the words “as if” to see subjective symptoms in the provers’ own language.
  • Search for *itis or *gia to gather every word ending in those letters.
  • Search a remedy’s single-remedy rubrics to see that remedy’s full list of them in Knerr.
  • Use F6 (Take and specify the options) and tick “Take all sub-rubrics – combined into one rubric with all remedies” to build a larger super-rubric.
