TRAVEL TO GREECE FROM UK
There are no direct flights to Alonissos – only to neighbouring
island Skiathos.
Skiathos: There are many direct
flights to Skiathos. Charter/holiday flights operate from Gatwick, Manchester
and many regional airports. However they only travel on weekdays. So in order not to miss any of the course (if you
are only staying one week) you need to find a flight on a Monday or Tuesday.
Charters fly from Gatwick on a Tuesday. This gives you time to catch a boat to
Alonissos in the afternoon/evening. If you travel for a two-week period there
is no problem as you can fit the course week in the middle. Or:
Athens: On weekdays and week-ends you can get charters or scheduled flights to Athens and then either an internal domestic flight (Olympic) to Skiathos ( this departs from the same airport and can be booked by your travel or flight agent from the UK) or, via a taxi from the airport, take an air-conditioned coach from Alkyon Travel Office, Academia 97, central Athens - to Ag. Konstantinos ( a port on the mainland east coast – this takes about 2 hrs) and then a hydrofoil flying dolphin or FlyingCat service to Alonissos – 2 hrs. This way travel could be done for instance Sunday to Sunday or Monday to Monday. Call Alkyon Travel for details and/or to book : 0030 210 384 3220. or 0030 210 3832545. e-mail: athens@alkyontravel.com.They are very helpful. The ferry/dolphin operator’s website is useful: www.hellenicseaways.gr (Hellenic seaways) – you can even book tickets online.
Thessaloniki: You can get cheap
charter flights from many UK airports to this northern Greek city and then a
fast FlyinfCat service from the port that travels to Alonissos via Skiathos.
This takes about 3hrs. Call Alkyon Travel to book this.
TRAVEL TO ALONISSOS
From Skiathos you can take the Flying Dolphin (hydrofoil) which takes one and a half hours, depending on stops, and costs about 27 Euros return or the ferry (2-3 hrs) or the new FlyingCat service which is very fast (30 minutes). You can also take all these from Ag.Konstantinos and the FlyingCat from Thessaloniki.
FLIGHT BOOKING
To book flights try the usual internet sites and flight bookers or contact your local travel agent. Try dialaflight.com 0870 900 2303.
